I have to teach my children about some tough topics….the Holocaust, Civil Rights…to name two.  I am often the first person to pierce through their innocence and teach them of these tragic events.  Right now, we are reading “The Watson’s Go To Birmingham – 1963″ and they have no idea of the horrific events that happened in Birmingham in 1963.  It is such a sad and difficult task for me to be assigned.  The basic facts are that some racists bombed a church and killed 4 girls -each middle school aged- and the culprits were known but not tried until 2001.  It is so hard for me to explain, and then to still expect them to love this country.   Hell, I still don’ t get it.  And even now, when the letters to the editor of the Free Lance Star are bashing FDR (using false info) and Obama and I continuously hear racist jokes, etc.

This is my new blog.  But, it really is not just about the history of me.  It is supposed to be “The History of…”  I plan to continue with the theme I started on blogspot, where I tell stories that sometimes are historical.

On my mind today is being a hermit.  Once in a while, I have a day where I just watch TV, play on the computer and do nothing.  I need a day like this to decompress fro the stress of my job.  Being a teacher is stressful – and lately it is because of the teachers not the kids.  It seems ridiculous, but there are a lot of teachers who don’t like kids.  It becomes so obvious that they are in the wrong job and they make things hard for everyone.

I also do a hermit day when there is so much to do that i can’t decide what to do, so I do nothing.  Stupid!!

I’m switching grade levels next year and I am looking forward to a new group of teachers to work with.  I will still be able to hang out with the 6th grade teachers I like, but can avoid the ones I don’t much easier.  I hope 7th grade teachers are more positive.

I’m going to Philadelphia for a wedding soon.  I got a dress, its yellow, and a purse – my mom’s old one – I am calling it “vintage” and I just need accessories and shoes.  it is crazy how much preparation I am doing for this wedding, and I am not really anything more than just a guest.  It will be nice to see family that I don’t see much, and I hope to get more family history stories as that is one angle I am going to do on this site.
